9:10 a.m., Nov. 26, 2008----Nancy Targett, dean of the University of Delaware's College of Marine and Earth Studies and David P. Roselle, president emeritus of the University and now interim director of Winterthur Museum & Country Estate, are serving on the transition team for governor-elect Jack A. Markell, who will succeed Delaware Gov. Ruth Ann Minner in January 2009.
All co-chairs of the Markell transition team, Targett and Roselle will help with details in the upcoming changeover by offering guidance and experience in their specific areas of expertise.
“Governor-elect Markell called and asked me to serve,” Targett said about her involvement. “I had read his position papers and liked what I saw. I was pleased to say yes.”
Targett added that because there are many layers to the transition process, many talented and community minded individuals will participate. All co-chairs, she said, “will have broad oversight responsibilities in specific areas.”
“I think every citizen should be supportive of their governor and others in leadership positions, and I'm happy to be able to be of assistance,” Roselle said.
In addition, Jennifer W. "J.J." Davis, vice president for administration at the University, is serving on the team that will coordinate the cabinet secretary selection process, and Donald J. Puglisi, professor emeritus of finance at UD, is co-chairing transition team committee focusing on administration.
Markell and Lieutenant Governor-elect Matt Denn will take their oaths of office in a ceremony beginning at 12:01 a.m., Jan. 20, in Mitchell Hall on the campus. In making the announcement, Markell said that Newark is a special place for him and his wife and for Denn and his wife. "We look forward to celebrating this special occasion there."
Markell is the son of William Markell, who is Arthur Andersen Alumni Professor Emeritus of Accounting at the University, grew up in Newark and attended Newark High School. His wife, Carla, is a UD alumna.
Denn is the son of Morton M. Denn, who taught in the University's Department of Chemical Engineering from 1965-81, and his wife, Michelle, is a UD alumna.
