2:09 p.m., Nov. 20, 2008----It was a moment that UD”s Collegiate Figure Skating Club team had been waiting for since 2002. For the first time in six years, the team skated its way to first place at the East Coast competition at Cornell University this month, edging out Cornell, Boston University and Dartmouth, which has been first in the country for six years. There were 10 schools participating.
“The team earned 100 points with Cornell coming in second with 87 points so it was an impressive win, and we were very excited,” said team vice president Kandis Kovalsky.
The skaters perform individually and their scores are tallied at the end of the competition to determine the winner. The Eastern teams have three competitions, and the top three teams in the East go to the nationals. The University of Delaware will host the next East Coast competition Feb. 15.
