8:24 a.m., Nov. 18, 2008----A Gulf Coast hurricane relief benefit concert is scheduled from noon-3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 23, in the Multipurpose Rooms of the Trabant University Center.
The concert is made possible through the help of Hillel Student Life, and the performers are as follows:
- Shakedown, a student band;
- Jared Weintraub, a vocalist and guitarist who is a freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences;
- Vocal Point, an a capella group;
- Meludees, an a capella group;
- The Rubber Chickens, an improv comedy troupe;
- Deltones, an a capella group;
- A Scarecrow's Follies, a student band; and
- Stone City, a student band.
Students from the University of Delaware have traveled to the Gulf Coast for the past three years with the Kristol Center for Jewish Life - UD Hillel to help gut and rebuild houses in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
After Hurricanes Gustav and Ike this fall, the area is once again in need of assistance. Hillel is planning another trip to the Gulf Coast over Winter Break to help get people back on their feet.
UD Hillel is holding this benefit concert to raise money to offset the costs of the trip to the Gulf Coast and help the people affected by the hurricanes. All proceeds will be donated to relief programs in the Gulf Coast.
