7:51 p.m., May 12, 2009----Newark Police have charged two women in the theft of an unattended purse that was stolen around 4:35 p.m., Saturday, May 9, at the Brunswick Blue Hen lanes, 230 East Main St., Newark.

The theft was witnessed by a patron of the bowling alley, who also was a friend of the purse's owner. The witness saw one of the women take the purse and hand it to the other. Both suspects then left the building. The witness confronted the women, and they surrendered the purse to the witness.

Officers responding to the call obtained descriptions of the suspects, and one officer located them on a DART bus that had recently left the Delaware Avenue transit hub. The suspects were identified by the witness.

Found in the belongings of both suspects were prescription medications that neither was legally entitled to possess. Both also were found to have outstanding warrants on file.

Charged were Carolyn Paoli, 54, of Newark, and her daughter Jessica Paul, 18, also of Newark. Both were charged with theft, third degree conspiracy, possession of a controlled substance and second degree criminal trespass, and Jessica Paoli also was charged with criminal impersonation.

Both were committed to the Baylor Women's Correctional Institute in default of bond: Carolyn Paoli in the amount of $2,501, and Jessica Paoli in the amount of $2,850.
