The American Institute for Public Service and The News Journal award this honor to individuals who are deemed shining examples of community service and volunteerism.

A reception was held May 7 at The News Journal Building for finalists and their friends and families.

Lambrecht was cited for her work with programs to train Delaware health care professionals, social workers, pastors and psychologists to improve end-of-life care.

Lambrecht was one of five Delawareans honored. Also cited were Elaine Chester, who leads annual holiday season gift drives at Delmarva Power and who was selected to represent the state for the national award; Barbara Byle, who has served as regional director for Guiding Eyes for the Blind in Southern Delaware; Chevala Oliver-Berry, who founded the nonprofit Sisters on a Mission breast cancer support group; and Michael White, a volunteer at the Mary Campbell Center.
