2:47 p.m., May 29, 2009----Register now for the University of Delaware's next FIBERcast, on global sourcing in the apparel industry.
The 45-minute audio program, hosted by Hye-Shin Kim, associate professor of fashion and apparel studies, will be broadcast live over the Internet on Friday, June 5, at 2 p.m. Eastern.
Kim's guests include Gary Ross, vice president of non-beauty supply chain management at Avon, and Paula Zusi, executive vice president and chief supply chain officer of Ann Taylor Stores Corporation.
At Avon, Ross is responsible for developing an end-to-end supply chain business model supporting product development, quality, sourcing, and logistics. He has more than 30 years of sourcing and manufacturing experience. He also directs Avon's new Global Non-Cosmetic, Fragrance and Toiletries Product Safety and Quality organization.
Formerly, he was corporate vice president of global manufacturing and sourcing at Liz Claiborne, where he held profit-and-loss responsibility for manufacturing, sourcing, and quality operations for 55 brands and 12 off-site offices, including buying agents with more than 1,100 associates managing a supplier base in over 50 countries.
Ross is a member of the Cotton Board, serves on the Trade Advisory Committee on Textile and Clothing (ITAC 13), and formerly co-chaired the American Chamber of Commerce, Textile and Apparel Sub-Committee while living in Hong Kong.
At Ann Taylor Stores Corporation, Zusi, a UD alumna, is responsible for all aspects of sourcing, manufacturing, logistics, and distribution activities. She has more than 25 years of experience in the apparel industry.
Prior to joining Ann Taylor, she spent nine years at Liz Claiborne Incorporated in New York, with sourcing and manufacturing oversight for all of Liz Claiborne's domestic brands, including Juicy Couture, Lucky Brand Jeans, and Kate Spade.
Zusi sits on the Fashion and Apparel Studies Advisory Board of the University of Delaware, where she earned her B.S. degree in apparel design.
Listeners to the live FIBERcast can e-mail their questions to add to the discussion.
After the program, the presentation will be made available as a podcast. Past FIBERcasts can be found online.
FIBERcast is sponsored by the Fashion International Business Education Response (FIBER) project, developed by the UD Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
The project's goal is to share the insights and knowledge of leaders in business, academia, and government on timely issues of importance to the international fashion and apparel industry.
