8:59 a.m., May 12, 2009----The University of Delaware Department of Music will present the Concerto Winners Concert at 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, in the Puglisi Orchestra Hall of the Roselle Center for the Arts on Orchard Road in Newark.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and alumni and $3 for students, and are available at the University box offices at the Trabant University Center and the Bob Carpenter Center. Call (302) 831-4012 for information on box office locations and hours.
Student stars Michael Righi, Kathryn Supina, Duo Shen and Jessica Santiago will take center stage in Sarmientos' Marimba Concerto, Arias from Die Fledermaus, The Ballad of Baby Doe, and Romeo et Juliette, the First Violin Concerto of Paganini, and Reinhold Gliere's Horn Concerto.
The orchestra will open with the rip-roaring, jazzy, snazzy, Broadway-brassy, overture to the show Gypsy and close with the orchestral showpiece España by Chabrier.
