The documentary is titled Left Behind: Chrysler's Newark Assembly Plant Past, Present and Future, and a free public screening will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 21, in Room 116 of Gore Hall.

The student journalists explore the historic automotive assembly plant in Newark, which opened amid patriotic fervor, producing tanks for U.S. forces in the Korean War, and unprecedented growth in what was then a small university town.

The students also explore the potential of the huge site on which the plant is located, adjacent to the UD campus. They interviewed plant workers, officials, environmental protection experts, community leaders, citizens and other analysts for the documentary.

The students are all in a class on "Broadcast News Documentary," taught by Ralph Begleiter, Edward and Elizabeth Goodman Rosenberg Professor of Communication and Distinguished Journalist in Residence. Producers and reporters include Rachel Alper, Brian Anderson, Antonia Borelli, Amanda Carlson, Daniel Corkery, Laura Dattaro, Lauren Ferrante, Kyle Gleason, Lauren House, Talia Katz, Stephanie Kraus, Luciano LaPenta, Bridget Leahy, Alex Lorn-Krause and Julie Wigley.
