11:34 a.m., May 5, 2009----Discover Understand Change, an awareness event on conflicts in Central Africa, will be held from noon to 6 p.m., Friday, May 8, on the University of Delaware's North Green.

The event aims to raise awareness about conflicts in Central Africa and to raise funds for various charities whose work will help those in those areas of Africa.

The event will feature performances by student organizations such as the Deltones, Mel-U-Dees and Delaware African Student Association, and bands such as American Buffalo, Horrible Horrible Creatures, Katie Dill, MewithoutYou, Outlanders and The Unicorn Valley.

There will also be guest speakers, raffles, a mock IDP (Internally Displaced Peoples) camp and other activities.

Also, there will be a special free screening of the documentary War/Dance at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 7, in Room 204 Gore Hall.

Discover Understand Change is sponsored by Uganda Untold, STAND, the Resident Student Association, StUDent Government Association, Office of Women's Affairs, Center for Black Culture, Campus Entrepreneur Initiative and Office of Academic Affairs.
