11:15 a.m., May 19, 2009----University of Delaware School of Education faculty Elizabeth Nash Farley-Ripple, Amanda Jansen and Douglas Archbald recently received honors for their publications from the American Educational Research Association (AERA).

Farley-Ripple, assistant professor of educational leadership, was selected to receive the 2009 AERA District Special Interest Group (SIG) Outstanding Dissertation Award. Entitled “Accountability, Evidence, and School District Decision-Making,” Farley-Ripple's dissertation has also received the University of Pennsylvania's Phi Delta Kappa outstanding dissertation award.

Jansen, assistant professor of mathematics education, received the 2009 Special Interest Group for Research in Mathematics Education (SIG-RME) Early Career Publication Award. This award recognizes her article titled “An Investigation of Relationships Between Seventh Grade Students' Beliefs and Their Participation During Mathematics Discussions in Two Classrooms,” which was published in 2008 in Mathematical Thinking and Learning.

Archbald's paper, “Determinants of and Strategies to Monitor Course-Level Placement in High School Programs,” was rated the best paper at the 2008 annual meeting by Division H of AERA, which focuses on research, evaluation and assessment in schools. He is an associate professor in educational leadership and policy.
