Douglas Tallamy, chairperson of the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology and author of the acclaimed book "Bringing Nature Home: How Native Plants Sustain Wildlife in Our Gardens," is featured in a March 22 USA Weekend spring home and garden report on the use of native plants in gardens.
Charles Elson, Edgar S Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a March 20 Bloomberg story about Citigroup plans to spend $10 million for news offices for its chief executive officer. “In this environment, it absolutely sends the wrong message,” Elson told Bloomberg, adding, “Timing in life is everything.”
Elson also was quoted in a March 19 Baltimore Sun story about incentives for executives at Constellation Energy Group, a March 18 USA Today story about bonuses for executives at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and a March 16 Houston Chronicle story about an investment firm that is battling to change corporate governance at Bank of America.
Eleanor Craig, associate professor of economics, was quoted in a March 20 News Journal story about plans to Gov. Jack Markell to raise business taxes as the state seeks to close a budget deficit. “It's going to hurt, no question,” Craig told the newspaper. “It's a signal to anybody considering coming here that we don't mind raising taxes. You don't attract businesses by raising taxes.”
Richard Wool, professor of chemical engineering, was featured in a March 18 American Physical Society Science News story about his “twinkling fractal theory” concerning the behavior of glassy materials.
Jeremy Firestone, associate professor of marine and earth studies, was quoted in a March 18 News Journal story about the future of the Bluewater offshore wind farm proposal.
William Pfaff, manager of UD's Small Business Development Center in Georgetown, was quoted in a March 18 Bethany Wave story about a small business insurance bill introduced in the state legislature.
Laurence Seidman, Chaplin Tyler Professor of Economics, was quoted in a widely circulated March 15 McClatchy Newspapers story about economic bailout plans, which noted that “a trillion is the new billion” in dollars. Seidman said he fears the number trillion is so large that it makes it difficult for lawmakers and journalists to get a clear understanding.
Mary Ann McLane, professor of medical technology, was interviewed for a “Friday Forum” discussion of stem cell research on WHYY's Delaware Tonight on March 13.
