The Steele Symposium is an interdisciplinary, scholarly conference for undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Delaware, Delaware State University and Delaware Technical and Community College to present their research on families, consumer sciences, human development and communities.

Marion H. Steele was a distinguished alumna of the University of Delaware who was the editor for many years of the Journal of Home Economics, now the Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences. An endowment by her family supports cash awards for outstanding papers and posters at the symposium.

The symposium is sponsored annually by the Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS), the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy (CHEP) and the Delaware Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.

This year's conference will be held on May 7, from 5-8 p.m., in Alison Hall South, Room 202.

A new electronic application is in place, which does not require hard copy submission of papers and abstracts or disks.

According to Christine Barthold, assistant professor of HDFS and a member of the symposium organizing committee, “The new electronic process will notify students that their submission has been received successfully and allow us to get the papers out promptly for review.”

Barthold also notes that students who submitted their papers or posters before the electronic application was in place do not need to resubmit.
