In his role with the USOC, Burton managed relationships with America's biggest sponsors, which included Coke, McDonald's Nike, and Visa during the historic 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.

Internationally, Burton served as the seventh commissioner of the Australian National Basketball League, overseeing 13 teams in three countries -- Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. He was commissioner for four years before returning to the U.S. as the chief marketing officer with the USOC.

“Rick is one of most respected individuals in the sport marketing field. He has worked with largest brands in the world and with some of the most respected sport properties both domestically and globally,” said Matthew J. Robinson, director of UD's Sport Management Program. “This is an incredible opportunity for the undergraduate and graduate students in the Sport Management Program and Lerner School of Business and Economics to interact with one of the best.”

Burton will also guest lecture in a graduate international sport management class and will have an informal roundtable discussion with sport management and marketing students.

Burton is a graduate of Syracuse University and earned his MBA from Marquette University.

He worked with Miller Lite for 12 years on national advertising campaigns including one of the most popular advertising campaigns of all time, “Taste Great Less Filling,” before moving on to become vice president at Clarion Performance Properties in Greenwich, Conn.

While at Clarion, Burton worked with high level clients that included the NFL, Universal Studios and Reebok.
