4:27 p.m., June 2, 2009----With dreams of working with animals from pets to livestock and exotic animals, 14 University of Delaware College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) graduates are headed to veterinary school in the fall.
“We are thrilled that so many of our students have been accepted to some of the finest veterinary schools,” says Kim Yackoski, CANR assistant dean for student services. “It demonstrates that our students are well prepared for success beyond their undergraduate time here at UD and is quite a testament to our pre-veterinary concentration in our animal science major.”
Among the 14 students are Science and Engineering Scholars, members of UD's Panel of Distinguished Scholars, dean's award recipients, students bestowed with honors degrees with distinction and impressive internships, and students who have demonstrated dedicated participation in college and University activities and organizations.
“This year's class was a very special one,” says Jack Gelb, chairperson and professor in the Department of Animal and Food Sciences. “The success of the students in obtaining admission to veterinary school is a certainly a reflection of their motivation, dedication and enthusiasm for learning. These students are among the very best at the University of Delaware and we are very proud of them. I would be remiss if I did not also acknowledge our excellent animal and food science faculty and their commitment to providing a high quality pre-vet program.”
