William Poole, Distinguished Scholar in Residence and former president of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, was quoted in a June 19 Reuters story on Congressional concerns about the role of the Federal Reserve in the financial crisis.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a June 19 Cincinnati Enquirer special report on corporate governance in that city and in a June 19 Bloomberg story on Apple investors. Elson also was quoted in a June 11 Associated Press story about Microsoft and its shareholders.

Sharon Merriman-Nai, co-manager of the National Center on Elder Abuse at the University of Delaware, was quoted in a June 19 News Journal story on elder abuse. "From what we've been able to tell, most of the cases of elder abuse that do occur are at the hands of people known and trusted by the victim,” she said.

Bahareh van Boekhold and Ali Farhadzadeh, UD students from Iran, were quoted in a June 19 News Journal story about post-election upheaval in that nation.

Elizabeth Perse, chairperson of the Department of Communication, was quoted in a June 18 Philadelphia Inquirer on cuts by public broadcasting outlet WHYY, which announced the end of the Delaware Tonight news broadcast. “There won't be any regular news for Delaware on the television at all, which is a shame,” Perse told the newspaper. "It's a shame that they're not going to be covering the area to which they're licensed as much as they used to with television -- which is what the license is for, not for the Web."

Leland Ware, Louis L. Redding Professor of Law and Public Policy and vice chairperson of the WHYY board of directors, was quoted in a June 17 News Journal story about cuts by the public broadcasting outlet.

Ben Yagoda, professor of English, had an opinion piece concerning the pronunciation of Iraq posted June 16 on the National Public Radio Web site.

William Sullivan, managing director, was quoted in a June 16 MSNBC feature on the experimental guest room at Marriott's Courtyard Newark-University of Delaware hotel on campus. “We want to have technology that's functional without overwhelming people,” Sullivan told travel writer Rob Lovitt. “We want to introduce new stuff, but we don't want guests to have to call the front desk to find out how to turn the TV on.”

Also, Sullivan, students Charles Graves, Leah Gourley and Taylor Lightcap, and alumnus Greg Antonucci were featured in a story on hands-on learning experiences at Marriott's Courtyard Newark-University of Delaware hotel on campus in the spring/summer edition of Newark Life.

Michela Taufer, assistant professor of computer and information sciences, was quoted in a June 16 Science Daily story about UD's Docking@Home project, through which you can donate your computer's idle time for use in biomedical research. She also was cited in a June 17 Fast Company magazine story on the project.

Bonnie Lane, a UD alumna, was featured in a June 15 News Journal story after being named the national Health Education Professional of the Year. Lane teaches at Delcastle Technical High School. Quoted in the article was Michelle Provost-Craig, associate professor of health, nutrition and exercise sciences.

James Zesko, a master of fine arts student, was cited for his Nomad installation at the Crane Arts Building in Philadelphia's Artblog. The building provides an urban showcase for work by UD students through the UD@Crane program.

Heather Lehman, a UD student, was featured in a June 14 News Journal story after being crowned Miss Delaware 2009. She succeeds Galen Giaccone, also a UD student.

Monica Taylor, vice president for development and alumni relations, was quoted in a June 14 Philadelphia Inquirer story about credit cards and universities.

Gregory Hicks, assistant professor of physical therapy, was cited in a June 14 HealthDay News story about research on spinal disc degeneration among the elderly.

Alvina Quintana, associate professor of Women's Studies, and 21 UD students were featured in the June 5 issue of El Tiempo Hispano for their work with the Delaware Hispanic Oral History Project as part of a Women's Studies capstone course.
