Suspects identified in Washington House burglary

6:15 p.m., June 6, 2009----Using tips from the public, Newark Police have identified the three people responsible for the May 31 burglary at the Washington House Condominiums on East Main Street in Newark.

Identified are John A. Rice, 20, of Newark; Duane C. Speck, 24, of Elkton, Md., and a 16-year-old woman from Elkton.

Rice surrendered to Newark Police on June 4 and was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, one count of second-degree conspiracy, two counts of theft and two counts of criminal mischief. He was released on $19,000 unsecured bond and ordered to have no contact with Main Street.

The female juvenile surrendered to Newark Police June 5 and was charged with the same offenses. She was released to her grandparents on $16,500 unsecured bond and was ordered to have no contact with Main Street or her co-defendants.

Speck, who is still at large, faces the same charges. His whereabouts are unknown but he is believed to be in the Elkton area.

The majority of the stolen property has been recovered by the investigating officer.
