10:46 a.m., June 11, 2009----The University of Delaware Library will present four workshops during the 2009 Summer Sessions -- two workshops on RefWorks, a Web-based research management system provided by the library, and two workshops on genealogical resources.
RefWorks is used to create and manage references, export references from databases and generate bibliographies or reference lists. RefWorks is available from the Library Databases page. Two levels of workshops are offered, introductory and advanced.
Introduction to RefWorks covers setting up an account, managing references, exporting references from research databases and creating bibliographies and other basic features.
The session will be held from 10-11:30 a.m., Friday, June 19, in the Library Instruction Room (116A) on the first floor of the Morris Library. Presenters will be Dianna McKellar and Frederick Getze, associate librarians.
RefWorks Advanced covers exporting references from research databases, organizing references, using the Write-N-Cite feature to insert in-text citations, edit in-text citations and create bibliographies or reference lists.
The session will be held from 10-11:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 23, in the Library Instruction Room (116A) on the first floor of the Morris Library. Presenter will be Catherine Wojewodzki, librarian.
Genealogy for Beginners covers basic genealogy research methods and provides an overview of the finding aids available through the University of Delaware Library. Attendees will learn how to search the online database Ancestry Library Edition for U.S. census records and find their ancestors in city directories.
The session will be held from 10-11:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, in the Library Instruction Room (116A) on the first floor of the Morris Library. Presenters will be Rebecca Knight and Linda Stein, associate librarians.
What's in a Name? Tips on Searching for Personal Names in Genealogical Resources covers some of the common challenges that genealogical researchers face when locating names within the U.S. Census and other historical sources, and offers strategies to overcome these challenges.
The session will be held from 10-11:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 28, in the Library Instruction Room (116A) on the first floor of the Morris Library. Presenters will be Rebecca Knight and Linda Stein, associate librarians.
The workshops are available at no charge and are open to University of Delaware students, faculty and staff. Genealogy workshops are also open to the public. Seating is limited and registration is required, and you can register online.
