1:32 p.m., June 1, 2009----Spend a week in June learning from some of the region's most fascinating people, speaking on topics that will entertain and enlighten, through a special program at the University of Delaware's Academy of Lifelong Learning.
The academy will offer a week-long morning lecture series beginning Monday, June 15, and continuing through Friday, June 19.
The lectures will take place at Arsht Hall on the University's Wilmington campus, 2700 Pennsylvania Ave.
Topics and speakers will be:
- "Online News: Redefining Journalism?" -- Richard G. Elliott Jr., director, Richards, Layton and Finger;
- "Wardrobe Malfunctions: Unveiling the Limits of the First Amendment" -- Jane R. Roth, U.S. Circuit Court judge;
- "Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust: A Legacy of Care" -- John F. Porter III, Nemours Foundation Board of Directors, past chair;
- "Wine along the Brandywine: Genealogy of an Emerging Regional Industry" -- Roger Morris, News Journal wine columnist and contributor to Saveur, Beverage Media, and Wine Enthusiast;
- "Illustrators of the Brandywine Valley" -- Jane V. Flitner, associate educator, Brandywine River Museum;
- "Bringing Nature Home" -- Doug Tallamy, chairperson of the University of Delaware's Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology;
- "Music as the Window to the Soul" -- Paul D. Head, chairperson of the University of Delaware's Department of Music and director of choral studies;
- "The Business of Health Care" -- Carol A. Ammon, chairperson of the Board of Directors, Christiana Care Health System;
- "Picturing Delaware," a Delaware Humanities Forum encore presentation -- Marilyn Whittington, director, Delaware Humanities Forum (moderator), with photographers Kevin Fleming and Kathleen Buckalew; and
- "History of African-American Jazz" - Wilmington Mayor James M. Baker with jazz trumpeter Gerald Chavis, guest soloist.
Each day will feature two lectures, the first one beginning at 9:30 a.m., and the second at 11 a.m. Doors will open at 9 a.m. each morning. The registration fee for the full series is $50 per person; refreshments are included.

The academy is also holding summer courses July 7-30. A summer catalog is available online.
The Academy of Lifelong Learning is a membership organization that provides opportunities for adults 50 and over to learn, teach, and travel with their peers. The only requirements for admission are interest in a continuing educational experience, support of the programs through participation, and a modest membership fee. Courses meet weekdays at Arsht Hall.
