The conference will open with a free public event for the Newark and UD communities. The half-day segment, from 3-7 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 9, will include a talk by documentary film writer and director Chris Paine, whose 2006 film Who Killed the Electric Car? delves into the short life of the GM EV1 electric car. The open session is aimed at opening channels of communication and awareness about energy and sustainability.

The conference program will include both technical and non-technical talks, poster presentations, networking sessions, and guest speakers. Talks by experts will address a broad range of topics, including climate change and public policy, green architecture and urban planning, the economics of climate change, solar fuels and materials, and photovoltaics for the 21st century.

Registration is now open on the conference Web site. Fees are $40 for undergraduates, $50 for graduate students, and $125 for all others. The deadline for registration is June 30.
