Editor's Note: Newark Police reported June 16 that the 13-year-old juvenile was arrested on one count of falsely reporting an incident and was released to her parents on an unsecured bond of $1,000, with several conditions, including pre-trial supervision, a mental health assessment and a 6 p.m. curfew.


9:24 a.m., June 12, 2009----Newark Police have determined that the kidnapping and attempted sexual assault alleged to have taken place at the College Square Shopping Center on Tuesday, June 9, did not actually occur.

The investigating detective discovered discrepancies in the victim's story. After being confronted with the inconsistencies, the 13-year-old female victim admitted that she concocted the account of the kidnapping to conceal the fact that she was visiting her boyfriend without her parents' consent.
