11:08 a.m., Jan. 20, 2009----The University of Delaware Performing Arts Series will present jazz violinist Regina Carter on Feb. 13 and Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana on March 1.
Regina Carter, winner of a MacArthur Fellowship “genius award” in 2006, will perform at 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 13, in Mitchell Hall.
Tickets cost $26 for the general public, $19 for University faculty, staff and alumni, and also for senior citizens, and $8 for students and children.
Tickets can be purchased through the Roselle Center for the Arts Box Office, Orchard Road and Kent Way in Newark, telephone (302) 831-2204, or through Ticketmaster at (302) 984-2000.
Carter has been described by the Los Angeles Times as, “A talented, charismatic player who is almost single-handedly reviving interest in the violin as a jazz instrument.”
Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana will perform at 7 p.m., Sunday, March 1, also in Mitchell Hall.
It has been called “one of New York's most skilled and enterprising Spanish dance troupes” by The New York Times, performing dances that transcend the boundaries of culture with the universal themes of pride, sorrow, love and passion.
Santana's company richly expresses Andalusian folklore through a mixture of music, dance and costumes that will stun the senses.
Tickets cost $21 for the general public, $17 for University faculty, staff and alumni, and also for senior citizens, and $8 for students and children.
Tickets are available through the Roselle Center for the Arts Box Office or Ticketmaster.
