Presentations

Araya Debessay, professor of accounting and management information systems, gave a presentation on “Why Ethiopia Should Consider Adopting International Financial Reporting Standards” to the members of the Institute of Internal Auditors Ethiopia Chapter at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Finance, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Jan. 3.

Jae Gutierrez, assistant professor of art conservation, presented a talk, "The Preservation of Photographic Collections in Historically Black Colleges and Universities," at the American Institute for Conservation's Photographic Materials Group Winter Meeting, Tucson, Ariz., Jan. 24.

Debra Hess Norris, vice provost for graduate and professional education and Henry Francis du Pont Chair in Fine Arts, presented a talk, “Photograph Preservation Workshop in the Middle East: Lessons in Priorities," at the Photographic Materials Group of the American Institute for Conservation's Winter Meeting, Tucson, Ariz., Jan. 24.

M. Dina Giambi, assistant director, University of Delaware Library, convener and moderator, "Breaking Down the Silos: Planning for Discovery in Library 2.0," Association for Library Collections and Technical Services Symposium at the American Library Association Midwinter Meeting, Denver, Jan. 23.

James Brophy, professor of history, delivered the paper, "Im Volksmund: Politische Literaten und politische Kultur im Vormaerz," at the Heinrich Heine Institute in Duesseldorf, Germany, on Jan. 13; and at the Engels-Haus at the Museum for Early Industrialization in Wuppertal, Germany, Jan. 15.

Books

Gibbons Ruark, professor emeritus of English, chapbook, Staying Blue, published by Lost Hills Books. The book is Ruark's eighth collection of poetry. One of the poems in the book, "John Clare's Finches," which appeared in The New Republic last June, was selected by distinguished poet David Wagoner to appear in the book, The Best American Poetry 2009.
