11 a.m., Dec. 16, 2008----The University of Delaware has surpassed its United Way of Delaware 2008 campaign goal, raising more than $185,000 to help agencies respond to those seeking help during the current financial crisis.
“During these challenging economic times, the dedicated employees of the University of Delaware have once again recognized the need of our fellow Delawareans by not only meeting our goal of $175,000, but by exceeding it,” Jennifer “J.J.” Davis, vice president for administration, said. “This collection of over $185,000, is one of the largest single annual giving campaign to the United Way from the University. A special thanks to everyone at the University for their donation of time and resources to make this an incredible success.”
During the campaign, which ended on Friday, Dec. 12, some 766 University employees and retirees pledged $185,120.
Jim Donahue, vice president of marketing and strategy at United Way of Delaware, said that the efforts of all organizations, including the University of Delaware, are important sources of revenue for programs funded by the organization.
“United Way of Delaware is the largest fundraising organization in Delaware, funding 120 programs that serve all kinds of Delawareans in all kinds of capacities,” Donahue said. “The efforts that our friends at the University of Delaware make each year continue to be a vital part of our overall fundraising efforts.”
The University of Delaware community has had a long and rewarding relationship with the United Way of Delaware and the many agencies it supports.
In the last 14 years, members of the UD community have contributed more than $2.7 million through the United Way of Delaware.
