10:39 a.m., Dec. 19, 2008----The 21st Delmarva Forestry Seminar will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10, beginning at 7:45 a.m., at the Dover Modern Maturity Center, 1121 Forrest Ave.
Classroom presentations will focus on woodlot insects and diseases, marketing wood products, managing Bobwhite quail, basic tree identification, forest taxes and opportunities in agroforestry, specifically silvopasture, which combines trees with forage and livestock production.
An afternoon field classroom will be offered to those interested in first-hand views of local forest management activities and tree pruning techniques.
The Delmarva Forestry Seminar is being offered to provide current woodland management information to landowners within the region.
Participants will have the opportunity to meet professional foresters, wildlife mangers, loggers and conservationists who are available to answer woodland management questions, provide direction for future planning and share stewardship experiences.
The $35 registration fee covers all materials provided at the seminar, including a continental breakfast and buffet lunch. If you are interested in the afternoon field tour, there will be an additional $10 fee. Registration deadline for both seminar events is Jan. 6.
For more information or a registration brochure, contact Dot Abbott of University of Delaware Cooperative Extension at (302) 730-4000 or Nevin Dawson of University of Maryland Cooperative Extension at (410) 827-8056.
