7:59 a.m., Dec. 10, 2008----The University of Delaware's 2009 Winter Faculty Institute -- “The Ecosystem of Learning at the University of Delaware”--will be held Tuesday, Jan. 6, in the Rodney Room of the Perkins Student Center.
Through event sponsors, raffle prizes will be awarded to a few registered attendees at the end of the day, including a PRS clicker kit, with a value of $2,500.
An interactive poster session that showcases the diversity of teaching and learning practices at UD is a new addition to this year's popular event.
Morning program
A continental breakfast, sponsored by eInstruction, will be served from 8:30-9 a.m.
The program's opening session will be held from 9-10:45 a.m. and will feature a keynote address by Gardner Campbell, director of the Academy for Teaching and Learning at Baylor University. He will speak on the topic “Insight, Symbiosis-Seeking, Intimacy: Awakening the Digital Imagination.”
Campbell serves as an associate professor of literature and media in the Honors College at Baylor and is on the advisory board of the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative and the Information Fluency Advisory Board of the University of Central Florida. The morning session will continue with a UD Faculty Showcase from 11-11:45 a.m. Three 15-minute presentations will add a local touch to Gardner's keynote address by spotlighting innovative and effective teaching and learning experiences.
Lunch, sponsored by eInstruction, will begin at 11:45 a.m.
Afternoon program
Want to know more about podcasting, virtual worlds, active learning, coursecasting, learning objects or distance education? Then the afternoon events should satisfy your curiosity.
More than 25 faculty members will present their experience with teaching and learning through a technology-enhanced poster session, sponsored by the Institute for Transforming Undergraduate Education, from 12:45-2:30 p.m.
The poster session will be followed by breakout sessions in which participants will discuss hot topics, followed by a panel discussion and closing remarks from 3:15-4 p.m.
