8:09 a.m., Dec. 19, 2008----Jack Markell, the governor-elect of the state of Delaware, will be the guest speaker at the Friends of Agriculture Breakfast to be held Jan. 9 in Harrington. Markell is appearing as a special guest in conjunction with the celebration of Delaware Ag Week, which runs Jan. 5-10.
“I couldn't be more pleased that governor-elect Markell is joining us for the Friends of Ag Breakfast and Delaware Ag Week,” says Jan Seitz, associate dean of the University of Delaware's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and director of University of Delaware Cooperative Extension. “I am looking forward to hearing him share his plans and projects for Delaware, as he speaks to us just a week and a half before his inauguration.”
The Friends of Agriculture Breakfast is one of more than 100 events taking place during Delaware Ag Week.
Now in its fourth year, Delaware Ag Week brings together Delaware's agricultural producers with the university and government-based researchers and professionals who support them throughout the year.
It is a week packed with meetings, workshops and events to help farmers keep abreast of the latest agricultural research and knowledge. Topics to be addressed include fresh market and vine crops, direct marketing, organic crops, forestry, pollination, small ruminants and more.
University of Delaware Cooperative Extension, Delaware State University Cooperative Extension and the Delaware Department of Agriculture are co-sponsors of Delaware Ag Week.
Most Delaware Ag Week activities will take place at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington; some events will be held at other locations in Harrington, Dover and Georgetown.
For a schedule of Delaware Ag Week events and their locations, see the web site or contact Emmalea Ernest at (302) 856-7303 or [emmalea@udel.edu].
The Friends of Agriculture Breakfast will be held at the Harrington Fire Co., 20 Clark St., in Harrington, beginning at 7:15 a.m. Registration is $20. For more information about the breakfast meeting, or to register, call Alice Moore at (302) 831-2504.
