7:59 a.m., April 6, 2009----A variety of activities, from films to lectures to social events, are planned for Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April, a campus-wide educational and awareness-building initiative co-sponsored by UD's Office of Women's Affairs and Wellspring, UD's student wellness program.

Starting Monday, April 6, and running through Saturday, May 2, the scheduled activities, which include several events for survivors of sexual assaults, are intended to educate the campus community about sexual assault crimes and the status of women in America.

Resource booths will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays through April at Kiosk A in the Trabant University Center.

Film series

The Sexual Assault Awareness Month film series will feature a screening at 7 p.m. each Tuesday through April in Room 205 Gore Hall. The films are as follows:

April 7: (Re)Visioning Sexual Violence Part 1, “Rape Is” and “Breaking the Silence.”

April 14: (Re)Visioning Sexual Violence Part 2: “Jane Doe No More, Inc.,” guest speaker Donna Palomba, founder.

April 21: (Re)Visioning Sexual Violence Part 3: “The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo.”

April 28: (Re)Visioning Sexual Violence Part 4” “I Was Raped.”

Activities

Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities are as follows:

April 8-9: Walk a Mile in Her Shoes march, 12:30 p.m., April 8, Trabant University Center patio, and Walk a Mile in My Shoes display, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., April 8-9, Trabant University Center patio. Rain location, Trabant food court.

April 9: P.S. to Post Secret Display, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Trabant University Center patio.

April 13: Presentation “Restorative Justice: Victim-Offender Dialogue,” with guest speakers Kim Book of Victims' Voices Heard and Susan Miller, professor of sociology and criminal justice, 7 p.m., Trabant University Center Theatre.

April 16: V-Day benefit performance of Any One of Us: Words from Prison: Newark, 8 p.m., Multipurpose Rooms A and B of the Trabant University Center.

April 21: Peace Outside Campus, third annual Awareness Day, 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m., location to be announced.

April 22: Film Georgia Rule, 7:30 p.m., Trabant University Center Theatre.

April 27: “Rape Becomes You: Being the Nut and Slut,” guest speaker Tory Bowen, 7 p.m., Room 100 Kirkbride Hall.

April 29: Speaker Jennifer Baumgardner, of the I Was Raped Project, 7:30 p.m., Rodney Room, Perkins Student Center.

April 30: Take Back the Night rally, march and speak out, 8 p.m., steps of Old College. The march will end at the Kirkwood Room of the Perkins Student Center, where the speak out will be held.

May 2: Kick the Silence kickball tournament, 9 a.m., Academy and Park Place fields.
