9:41 a.m., April 15, 2009----For all those alumni and friends who've been thinking about attending the University of Delaware's inaugural Forum & Reunion Weekend, June 5-7, now is the time to act. “Early Hen” discounts for the celebration are in effect only until April 30.
A pass for Friday, June 5, which includes a family-friendly “Ghosts on The Green” walking tour of haunted spots on campus and culminates with an all-you-can-eat-and-drink Mug Night on The Green with live music, costs just $20 with the discounts. Beginning April 30, the price increases to $35.
Events on Saturday, June 6, will feature a keynote address by nationally known motivational speaker Pat Williams of the Orlando Magic; a town hall meeting with UD President Pat Harker; an international foods picnic; showcases of some of the University's best programs and specialties; and an evening performance by Judson Laipply, known for his “Evolution of Dance” video. The day concludes with an all-alumni dance party on The Green. A pass granting admission to all the day's events is currently $35 and increases to $50 on April 30.
Cindy Campanella, director of Alumni Relations and a 1984 UD graduate, says anticipation is building as more activities continue to be added to the Weekend schedule and more alumni begin gathering groups of friends to attend. “All of our UD alumni and friends are invited and encouraged to come back to campus for what is going to be the start of a new tradition,” she said. “It promises to be fun, exciting and an opportunity to see the many changes on campus and to renew old friendships.”
At Mug Night on Friday, alumni returning to campus will have their first big event of the weekend at which to mingle with old friends and former classmates and faculty members. In addition to the all-inclusive party, with music by Love Seed Mama Jump, specialized interest groups will have designated areas and activities to get together. Areas will be set aside at the party for alumni of the Honors Program, Greek organizations, athletic teams and more.
Other activities for alumni interest groups will include dinners, receptions and awards ceremonies for alumni of specific colleges at the University, as well as events planned by such groups as Professional and Continuing Studies and the UD Laboratory Preschool.
On Saturday, a Gold Guard luncheon will be held for all alumni of the Class of 1959 and earlier, and the reunion classes of 1984, 1999 and 2004 will celebrate in the early evening before the all-alumni party with The Fabulous Greaseband begins.
For more information about all the specialized reunion events, college receptions, the first Blue Hen 5K run/walk Saturday morning, overnight stays in one of UD's new residence halls -- as well as the general admission activities of Forum & Reunion Weekend -- visit the Web site. To register while the discounts are still in effect, visit the same Web site or call (302) 831-2341.
The Web site also includes a list of those who have registered and a detailed and continually updated schedule of the Weekend's events.
