1:05 p.m., April 21, 2009----HOLA, a Latino and multicultural student organization at the University of Delaware dedicated to promoting awareness and education of Latino culture to the campus community, will present “An Evening with John Leguizamo” on Tuesday, April 28, in the Trabant University Center Multipurpose Rooms.
The doors will open at 7 p.m. and the program will begin at 7:30.
A Colombian-American actor and producer, Leguizamo was born in Bogotá and emigrated to the United States with his family when he was four. He grew up in Queens, N.Y. He has family of Puerto Rican and Lebanese descent.
Leguizamo's long list of credits include Carlito's Way, To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar, Romeo + Juliet, Doctor Dolittle, Summer of Sam, Moulin Rouge, Ice Age, ER, The Happening and Miracle at St. Anna.
He also has written and starred in several off-Broadway productions, some of which have been autobiographical.
Leguizamo will be share his experiences about growing up poor, about his Latino heritage and about overcoming obstacles to succeed in the entertainment industry.
HOLA is cosponsoring this event with the Latino Heritage Office, Student Centers Programming Advisory Board, Resident Student Association, StUDent Government Association, Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, and the Latino and Multiethnic Greek Council.
Tickets are now sale to the University of Delaware community and to the general public at the UD box offices and through Ticketmaster. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for faculty and staff. There is a limit of four tickets per UD ID, and one ID per person.
Tickets cost $15 for the general public.
