1:27 p.m., April 24, 2009----Newark Police arrested two teenagers April 23 and charged them with numerous counts of graffiti in separate investigations.
A 17-year-old man from Greenville, Del., was charged with two felony and 30 misdemeanor counts of graffiti for offenses occurring between October 2008 and March 2009. With tags that included "Cevan," "Ceven," "Cover" and "Cane," he used paint, markers and other implements in vandalism along Main Street and on several bridges. His arrest was the result of a cooperative effort between Newark Police and the New Castle County Police Department. His bail was set at $40,000, and he was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center.
A 16-year-old man from the Willow Run area near Elsmere, Del., was charged with one felony and 10 misdemeanor counts of graffiti. Using paint, markers and other implements he tagged the word "Read" at numerous locations along Main Street, the southern end of South College Avenue and the South College Avenue bridge. His arrest was a cooperative effort of Newark Police and the Elsmere Police Department. His bail was set at $12,000 unsecured, and he was released to the custody of his parents.
