10:35 a.m., April 13, 2009----Is your graduate adviser knowledgeable about University of Delaware policies and procedures? What academic resources and student services are needed that are not available? Do you feel a sense of belonging to a graduate student community at UD?
Full-time UD graduate students recently received a link to a student satisfaction survey, developed by the Office of Graduate and Professional Education and the Graduate Student Senate, which seeks answers to these and many other questions, on topics ranging from academics and professional development, to student services and campus life.
“This is the first time in the history of the University of Delaware that a survey of this kind has been administered to graduate students,” says Michele Maughan, doctoral student in animal and food sciences and president of the Graduate Student Senate.
“This is a great opportunity for graduate students to have a voice, in stating how they feel about their graduate education at UD, and in pointing out strengths and possible areas for enhancement. This information really will impact the future of graduate education at UD,” Maughan notes.
“The Office of Graduate and Professional Education is committed to ensuring graduate student success at the University of Delaware,” notes Debra Hess Norris, vice provost for graduate and professional education, chairperson of the Department of Art Conservation, and Henry F. du Pont Chair in Fine Arts.
“Together, with the Graduate Student Senate, we have been working to strengthen diversity, raise visibility, offer programs on such topics as grant writing and dissertation preparation, support new opportunities for global research travel, increase support for professional development activities, advocate on behalf of graduate students to create a supportive and collegial learning environment, and champion a true sense of graduate student community,” Norris says.
“This survey will further inform our efforts and help us identify new priority programs and opportunities to enhance graduate success and the graduate experience at UD.”
The survey is designed to take less than 15 minutes to complete. All responses are confidential and will be reported in the aggregate. No individuals will be identified.
Participants who complete the survey may enter a drawing to win a $50 gift certificate to the UD Bookstore. Two participants will be selected at random.
If you are a UD graduate student and missed the original e-mail or accidentally deleted it, please go to this Web page to complete the survey.
The Graduate Student Satisfaction Survey is one of several surveys currently being administered by the Office of Institutional Research & Planning, according to Heather Kelly, the office's associate director.
Newark undergraduates recently received the online Undergraduate Student Satisfaction Survey, and in a few weeks, Associate in Arts students will be surveyed in both hard copy and online.
