12:04 p.m., April 21, 2009----Delaware Gov. Jack Markell, the University of Delaware and PNC Bank Delaware will be among those honored at the 2009 awards luncheon hosted by Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County on Friday, May 1, at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington.
Markell will be presented with Goodwill's Advocacy Award, given each year to a state, federal or municipal government official who supports the mission of Goodwill.
The University of Delaware will be recognized as Goodwill's business partner of the year for its assistance in building the capacity of Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County.
PNC Bank Delaware and its president, Connie Bond Stuart, will receive the community partner of the year award, given to a business, company or organization that helps support Goodwill's mission.
Others to be recognized during the May 1 luncheon include Jack Varsalona from Wilmington University, who will receive the J. H. Beauchamp Volunteer of the Year Award, and Wawa store number 838 in Dover, which has been selected as the employer of the year.
Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County will also honor an employee of the year, an outstanding graduate, and recognize two members of the Goodwill family for personal achievement, including an award named after former U.S. Sen. William V. Roth.
The luncheon will be chaired by Michael Berardi of Nason Construction, while Mark Pryslak of WSFS Bank will serve as co-chair of the annual event. The luncheon, Goodwill's only fundraiser of the year, plays a vital role in raising awareness and funds to support job training and placement programs.
For 87 years, Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County's mission has been to improve the quality of life for individuals with barriers to employment through vocational services and work opportunities and has been supported by proceeds from retail sales and donations. Last year alone, Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County provided over 6,900 services to individuals throughout the region.
For information, reservations or to become a luncheon partner, please contact Colleen McCardle, events manager, at [cmccardle@goodwillde.org] or (302) 504-5736, or visit the Goodwill of Delaware Web site.
