11:31 a.m., May 1, 2009----The University of Delaware's Washington, D.C., Alumni Club will be busy in early May with events planned in conjunction with the Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase event and the Phillips Collection at Phillips After 5.
D.C. club member will gather at the 83rd running of the Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase on Saturday, May 2, at Great Meadow in The Plains. UD is partnered with Villanova University on the event's University Row. For details, see the club Web site.
Club members also will spend an evening exploring the Phillips Collection at Phillips After 5, Dupont Circle, beginning at 5 p.m., Thursday, May 7. The permanent collection features nearly 3,000 works by American and European impressionist and modern artists. For details, see the club Web site.
Also, the Chicago Alumni Club is planning a special event from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, May 5, at the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago, 230 N. Michigan Ave. UD President Patrick Harker will be on hand for the reception. Cost is $25 and includes refreshments and hors d'oeuvres. The Lehigh Valley Alumni Club will hold a networking event from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, May 9, at Starter's Riverport, 17 W. 2nd St., Bethlehem, Pa. A special section will be set aside for UD alumni. For details and to register, see the club Web site.
The Philadelphia Alumni Club will hold a young alumni happy hour on Thursday, May 14, at Mad River old Old City, Philadelphia. Mad River is offered specials for UD alumni. For details, see the club Web site.
The New Castle County Alumni Club will hold an event at 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, on the northwest sundeck of the Washington House on Main Street in Newark. Special guest speaker will be Jim Baeurle, UD alumnus and former owner of the Stone Balloon, which formerly stood on the site of the Washington House. Registration is $15 which includes food and wine. Also, the club will be collecting items to send to Blue Hens serving in Iraq with the 261st Signal Brigade. For details, see the club Web site.
