For the test, text and e-mail messages will be sent through the UD Alert system to campus e-mails, cell phones and office and residence hall phones.

Messages also will be sent to home phone numbers and emergency contact numbers, so family members should be alerted that a test is being held.

The emergency test message will come from (302) 831-4111.

Test messages also will be broadcast on loudspeakers around the campus through the carillon system. Loudspeakers are located in Memorial Hall, Pearson Hall, the Pencader Dining Hall, Worrilow Hall, the Rodney Residence Hall Complex and the Trabant University Center.

In addition, test messages will be broadcast on campus cable television channels and on classroom projection systems.

“We test the University's emergency notification system regularly to ensure that it functions properly and to remind the University community about its use,” Marcia Nickle, emergency preparedness coordinator, said.

The UD Alert System is only used when there is a clear and credible danger to the University community.

All members of the University community are reminded that, for the system to be effective, contact information in the University's databases should be up to date. Information on how to update emergency information, which may be done online at any time, is available at these two Web sites:

For students: [www.udel.edu/udalertstudent]

For staff: [www.udel.edu/udalertstaff]

Anyone with comments or concerns about the UD Alert System should write to [e-prepare@udel.edu].
