Membership Categories and Benefits

The Urban Affairs Association has three membership categories: institutional, individual, and student.

Institutional

To be eligible for institutional membership, an urban unit must be broad in mission and scope of activity, multidisciplinary in staff competence and program approach, and formally recognized by its college or university.

Each institutional member will designate a representative that serves as the primary contact between UAA and the institution.

Institutional members receive multiple copies of all UAA publications. The major UAA publication is The Journal of Urban Affairs, which is published five times year. Institutional members have the option of linking their program/department website to UAA’s homepage, to gain greater visibility, and recruit potential students. They can also place news articles and job ads in UAA's newsletter, Urban Affairs, published online in May and November of each year. Institutional members have the option to place job ads on the UAA website free of charge throughout the year.

Institutional members can request one free rental per year of UAA's comprehensive mailing list. In addition, their program faculty and staff are eligible for special reduced rates on individual memberships. Institutional members also have the option of having free exhibit space at our annual meetings.

Institutional dues for UAA are $295.

Individual

To be eligible for individual membership, you must be involved in education, training, service, administration, or research in the field of urban affairs.

Individual members receive copies of all UAA publications. The major UAA publication is The Journal of Urban Affairs, which is published five times year.

Individual members are also eligible for reduced conference registration rates for the Annual Meeting held each spring.

Individual dues are $60.

Individual—Discounted

Faculty and staff employed in unit that is an institutional member are eligible for a special reduced individual membership rate of $45.

Individual-Discounted members receive the same benefits as regular individual members.

Student

A special student membership rate of $30 is available for undergraduates and graduate students with an interest in urban affairs. Please note that the student membership rate is normally offered to students for two years maximum. At the end of two years, any student wishing to extend his or her student membership must provide documentation verifying his or her continued student status.
