Travel Grants for the 2010 Conference in Honolulu

In order to facilitate participation in the 2010 UAA Conference in Honolulu, the UAA Board is making a limited number of travel grants available to UAA members* who have insufficient financial support to attend the conference. A total of 60 grants will be awarded (30 to students, and an additional 30 to untenured faculty/post-docs). The terms of these grants are described below.

* To be eligible, your UAA membership must be current as of May 1, 2009. The Membership section of our website contains information on how to check your membership status.

Grant Benefits

  • Student recipients will be given a conference registration waiver plus a $350 lodging credit which will be applied to their Sheraton Waikiki lodging expenses (the approximate cost of two nights at the hotel). Sharing of rooms is permitted. However, the credit applies to the Sheraton only.
  • Untenured faculty members and post-docs will be given a $350 lodging credit which will be applied to their Sheraton Waikiki lodging expenses (the approximate cost of two nights at the hotel). Sharing of rooms is permitted. However, the credit applies to the Sheraton only.

Grant Guidelines

  1. All applicants must complete an application (see link below) form that requires information on membership status, student or untenured status, and details on efforts made to obtain travel funds from other sources.
  1. All applicants must have an accepted proposal for presentation of a paper, poster or colloquy talk. Acceptance/rejection notices for persons submitting paper/colloquy/poster proposals will be sent out by November 16, 2009.
  1. Assuming that more than 30 applications are received for each class of award, the winners will be selected randomly from the eligible applicants in each group.

Application Deadline: December 7, 2009

Grant recipients will be notified of the award by December 14, 2009. All recipients are responsible for making their own reservations at the Sheraton. Reservations can be made via the UAA website.
