To perform periodic maintenance on a Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) computer, follow these steps:
- On your hard drive, click Applications.
- Click the Utilities folder. The Utilities window should look like the one below:

- Double-click the Disk Utility folder. You will see a window like the
one below:

- Click the name of your hard drive in the left pane (e.g., Macintosh HD in this example) .
- Click First Aid on the right-hand side of the window.
- Click Repair Disk Permissions.
- When the process is complete, select close the window.
- You should run Disk Utility after installing any new software to ensure that the installation did not affect your computer in any adverse way.
