UDLite Power Setting Recommendations
The following settings are recommended to decrease
the amount of energy consumed by computers, peripherals, and related equipment
on campus.
Windows Computers
To access the power settings of a Windows XP computer, follow these steps:
- Click Start.
- Click Control Panel.
- Click Power Options.
- Follow the setting guidelines below using the tabs on the Power Options dialog box.
Desktop Systems
- Monitor—30 minutes
- Drive—30 minutes
- Standby—30 minutes
- Turn off at night
Laptop Systems (Non-Presentation)
using AC Power
- Monitor—30 minutes
- Drive—30 minutes
- Standby—1 hour
- Turn off
at night
Laptop Systems (Non-Presentation)
using Battery Power
- Monitor—15 minutes
- Drive—15 minutes
- Hibernation—30 minutes
- Turn off at night
Laptop Systems (Used for
Presentations) using AC Power
- Monitor—3 hours
- Drive—3 hours
- Standby—never
Laptop Systems (Used for
Presentations)
using Battery Power
- Recommend using AC power;
otherwise settings same as AC Power settings
Office Equipment (Networked
Printers, Copiers)
- Powersave—1 hour
- Turn off at night
Apple Computers
