How to Publish Information on the Web
To publish your information, you put it into a computer file with special codes to allow it to be displayed on the Web and to link to other Web documents and graphics. These special codes are called HyperText Markup Language, or HTML for short. The UD Web Developer Idea Center contains the University's Standards and Guidelines for publishing Web pages as well as information on creating Web files and preparing graphics for Web pages. You can use Web publishing software (e.g., Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe GoLive, or Mozilla Composer) to create your pages. You can also use UD's HTML tutorials to learn to create Web pages using HTML.
For the world to see your Web document, the file must be located on a computer that is running a World Wide Web server.
To set up a department web project, follow these steps:
If your department already has a Web page, and you've been asked to maintain it, you must first be added to the Web project. To have you added, the project director must go to the Help Center web page, select "Systems access forms," login, and complete the "UNIX Project-Add User Request" form. Once you have been added, send an e-mail message to www-dir-req@udel.edu giving the name of the directory in which the pages reside, requesting that you be given ownership of the files, and specifying your UDelNet ID.
