How to set up Microsoft Outlook to
access the Exchange server

Create an Outlook profile

If needed, create a new Outlook profile. You may need to create a new profile on a machine prior to account setup if any of the following instances are true:

  • The computer has an existing Outlook profile
If a computer is being transferred to a new user, it may have an existing profile. If so, verify with the previous user that the old profile may be removed, create the new profile, and delete the old profile.
  • More than one user needs to access their Exchange account using Outlook from within the XP profile
To configure Outlook to prompt the user to select a profile when it is launched, choose the Prompt for a profile to be used radio button in the control panel Mail profiles section.
  • The user experiences e-mail problems that cannot be resolved by working with the existing profile
If you are creating a new profile to correct a problem, make sure to set up the new profile before removing the old profile in case any data from the old profile needs to be transferred to the new profile.
