Webmail Direct: Send an E-mail Message

Send an e-mail message

  1. On the menu bar, click Compose. The Compose window opens:

    Composition window

  2. In the To field, type the e-mail address of each correspondent.

    • If you are sending the message to more than one correspondent, separate the addresses with a comma.
    • If you have not set up the Address Book, you must use the full e-mail address, for example, traini@udel.edu.
    • If you have set up the Address Book, type the recipient's nickname, for example, Bob, on the "To" line. Click the Expand button to see the full name and address.

Note: If you have added entries to your Address Book, read Use the Address book for details on sending messages.
  3. In the Subject field, type the subject of your message.
  4. Type your message in the text box.
  5. If you have set your preferences to request a delivery receipt, a read receipt, or to save a copy of the message you are sending, the check boxes at the bottom of the text box will be selected. Note: If you do not need the receipts or a record of the message you are sending, clear the check boxes. Messages stored in mail folders count against your e-mail disk quota.

If you have included a signature in your preferences and do not want the signature to appear in a given message, clear the check box next to Include Signature.
  6. If you want to attach a file to your message, see below.
  7. Click the Send button. (If you want to send the message at a later time, click Save Draft to save the message in the Draft folder.)

Note: There is a limit to how many messages you may send and recipients you may have at a given time. This limit is based on a formula that takes into account the number of recipients and the number of messages. If you exceed this limit when you try to send a message, you will receive the following error: "This account is over its mail-sent quota. Contact your administrator." If you need to send messages to large numbers of people, use a mail program other than Webmail Direct.
