Webmail Direct: Read, Reply to and Forward Messages

Read incoming e-mail messages

Note: You will not receive any new messages if you exceed your e-mail disk quota. It is important to monitor your e-mail account's disk usage which is shown in the quota bar at the top of your Inbox (or other mail folder):

  1. In the Inbox window, click the Subject field to read your message. The Inbox window is replaced by one that contains the message you have selected:

    Message window

Menus above and below the message allow you to act on it (delete, go to the previous or next message, reply, reply to all, forward, type a number to go to a specific message, and so on).

    • Attachments:

      • If someone sends you an attachment that is an image, you can view it in the message window. If you want to save the attachment, click the Open link next to its title to open it in a new browser window or download it to your computer. Alternatively, you can right-click the image and click "Save Image As" to save it to your hard drive. If you are unsure about who has sent you the attachment or what it contains, it is safer to delete the message.
      • If someone sends you an attachment that is a file such as Microsoft Word or Excel, click Open to open the file with the software that created it or to download it to your computer. If you are unsure about who has sent you the attachment or what it contains, it is safer to delete the message.
    • Move/Copy:

After you have read a message, you can save it in a specific folder by selecting a folder name from the drop-down menu and clicking Move or Copy.
    • If you receive a SPAM message, you can add the sender to your Block List by clicking This is Spam.

  2. After you have read the message and acted upon it, click Inbox to return to your Inbox or click Prev or Next to go to the previous or next message.

Reply to an e-mail message

When you reply to a message, Webmail Direct automatically brings up a composition window with the address fields filled in. You can set your Webmail preferences to include the original message inline or to add it as a file attachment.

To reply to a message:

  1. To reply to a message you are reading, select one of the following:

    • Reply: Your reply will go only to the sender of the message.
    • All: Your reply will go to the sender and all recipients of the original message.

You will see a composition window with the addresses in the "To" or "CC" text boxes. The subject is automatically filled in with "Re:" preceding the original subject line.

  2. You can add or delete recipients; compose your reply as you would any other message.
  3. Click Send.

The message is sent, and you are returned to your Inbox.

Forward an e-mail message

There are two ways to forward a message from the Message window:

  • Forward opens a Compose window with the original message and the attachment displayed below the message composition box. You cannot edit the original message.
  • Inline includes the original message in the message composition box. You can edit the original message; however, this method of forwarding does not include the attachment.

To forward a message:

  1. With the message you want to forward showing in the window, click Forward or Inline.
  2. Type the e-mail address of your correspondent in the To field. The subject will already be filled in.
  3. Click the text box and type any message you want to include.
