Webmail Direct: Control Junk/SPAM E-mail

Control junk/SPAM e-mail

After you set up your junk mail/SPAM filter, Webmail Direct allows you to control junk/SPAM mail through the use of white lists and block lists. You can access and edit these lists by clicking Options on the Webmail Direct menu bar. You can also indicate whether a message is SPAM from within the message itself.

How to use the White List

You can use the Junk Mail Control page White List to create a list of senders whose mail will never be considered SPAM or junk mail. Messages from senders on your White List are always sent to your Inbox. Note: You do not need to add the address of everyone who sends you e-mail to your White List; rather, only senders whose mail is, for some reason, identified as junk mail need be added.

Create a White List

  1. On the Webmail Direct menu bar, click Options.
  2. On the Options Access Control menu bar, click Junk Mail Control. You will see a window like the one below:

  3. In the E-mail address or domain name text box, type the e-mail address of the person you want to add your White List.
  4. Click Add. You will see the e-mail address in the White List list box at the right of the window. Mail sent from someone on your White List will never be treated as junk mail.

To remove an address from your White List, highlight the e-mail address and click Remove. The address is removed from your White List and is now subject to antispam scanning and Junk Mail filtering.

Create a White List entry from within a mail message

If a message has been mistakenly identified as junk mail and placed in the Junk Mail folder, you can create a While List entry for the sender. After you create the entry, all mail from that sender will appear in your Inbox. To add a sender to your White List:

  1. In the Junk Mail Folder, click the message that should not be junk mail. The top of your message window will look like the one below:

  2. Click This is Not Spam. You will see the following window:

  3. Make sure the boxes are checked then click OK to add the sender to your White List and to move the message back to your Inbox.

Create a Mailing List Exemptions (White List) entry for a mailing list

  1. On the Webmail Direct menu bar, click Options.
  2. On the Options Access Control menu bar, click Junk Mail Control. On the Junk Mail Control menu bar that begins with "White List," click Mailing List Exemptions. You will see a window like the one below:

  3. In the Mailing List Address: text box, type the e-mail address of the list you want to add your Exemptions List.
  4. Click Add. You will see the e-mail address in the Mailing List Exemptions: box at the right of the window. Mail sent from a mailing list in your Mailing List Exemptions will never be treated as junk mail.

To remove an address from your Mailing List Exemptions, highlight the e-mail address and click Remove. The list is removed from your Mailing List Exemptions and is now subject to antispam scanning and Junk Mail filtering.

How to use the Block List

You can use the Junk Mail Control page Block List to create a list of senders whose mail will always be considered SPAM or junk mail.

Create a Block List

  1. On the Webmail Direct menu bar, click Options.
  2. On the Options Access Control menu bar, click Junk Mail Control. You will see the Junk Mail Control White List window.

  3. Click the Block List link. You will see a window like the one below:

  4. In the E-mail address or domain name text box, type the e-mail address of the person you want to add your Block List.
  5. Click Add. You will see the e-mail address in the Block List box at the right of the window. Mail sent from someone on your Block List will be acted on by the the Junk Mail filter.

To remove an address from your Block List, highlight the sender's e-mail address and click Remove. The address is removed from your Block List and will be treated as regular mail.

Create a Block List entry from within a mail message

If a junk mail/SPAM message has been mistakenly identified as legitimate mail and placed in your Inbox, you can create a Block List entry for the sender. After you create the entry, all mail from that sender will appear in your Junk Mail folder. To add a sender to your Block List:

  1. In the Inbox, click the message that should be junk mail. The top of your message window will look like the one below:

    This is SPAM link.

  2. Click This is Spam. You will see the following window:

  3. Make sure the boxes are checked then click OK to add the sender to your Block List and to move the message to the Junk Mail folder.
