The following
instructions are written to help individuals who work with Webmail use
the application to reduce the disk space used by their e-mail messages.
General instructions for Webmail
- Refer
to the names of the last 4 or 5 folders that you wrote down when
you used the du -ak
| sort -n command so
you know which folders to focus on when you want to remove (delete)
files.
- Log
on to Webmail as you normally do.
- Click
the Empty Trash link
if it appears at the top of your screen.
- Click Options at
the top of the screen.
- Under
Mail Management, select Deleting and Moving
Messages.
- The first
box should have a checkmark.
- The second
box should NOT have a checkmark.
- Click Save
Options.
- Check your folder list at the
top right of the screen.
- Review each
folder you think may contain large messages.
The sent-mail folder
is
usually
a
good
one
to
check.
- When
the
message list for the folder is on the
screen,
click the word Size on the right-hand side of the
screen. This action will list the messages by size—from the
largest to the smallest.
- Delete
any
large messages that you don't
need to keep. To delete e-mail from the folder list follow these
steps:
- Click the
box to the left of the message.
- Click Delete at
the top of that column.
- Click Purge
Deleted (the
top right
of the
message list).
- Minimize
the e-mail program window.
- Maximize
the SSH window. After you remove
(delete) files, recheck your overall disk
space.
- If your
account is still over its disk quota limit, maximize the e-mail program
window and remove (delete) more messages.
- Switch
back and forth between the e-mail program window and the SSH window
to remove
(delete) files until your account is below its disk quota limit.
- Close
any windows you no longer need.
