How to Manage Your Inbox Disk Space Limit
How to decrease your Inbox disk space use
if you work with Outlook Express (version 6)

The following instructions are written to help individuals who work with Outlook Express (version 6) use the application to reduce their Inbox disk space use.

General instructions for Outlook Express (version 6)
  1. Open Outlook Express as you normally do.
  2. Check your Outlook Express configuration settings to verify that they are set to delete e-mail properly.
  3. Make sure you can see the size of the messages in your Inbox. If you don't see the Size column along with the column names Subject, Sender, etc., follow these steps to make the message Size column visible:
    1. Click a folder.
    2. From the View menu, select Columns.
    3. Click the downward pointing triangle and scroll down the list of column headings until you see Size.
    4. Make sure that the box next to Size contains a checkmark. If it does not, click the box so that a checkmark appears.
    5. Click OK.
  4. To sort the messages by size, click the column title Size. (To reverse the sort order, click Size again.)
  5. A message size followed by the letter M (which stands for Megabytes) indicates that the message is very large and should be deleted if you do not need to keep it. If you need to save it, move it to the appropriate Local Mail folder and then delete it from the central server.
  6. Follow these steps to create a Local Folder:
    1. Click Local Folders.
    2. From the File menu, select New | Folder.
    3. Type a folder name in the Create Folder box.
    4. Click OK.
    5. To move large messages, right click on the message to be moved.
    6. Select Move to Folder and then select the appropriate local folder. The message will be moved and automatically marked for deletion.
    7. From the Edit menu, click Purge Deleted Messages.
  7. Delete messages you no longer need. Highlight the message and click Delete at the top of the screen. Deleted messages will be marked with a line through them.
  8. From the Edit menu, click Purge Deleted Messages.
  9. Minimize the e-mail program window.
  10. Maximize the SSH window. Rcheck your Inbox space use.
  11. If your Inbox is still too large, maximize the e-mail program window and remove (delete) more messages.
  12. Switch between the e-mail program window and the SSH window to remove (delete) files until your account is below 2MB.
  13. Close any windows you no longer need.
