Can't delete messages in Netscape Messenger - Need to delete using pine e-mail

FYI: Why use pine e-mail instead of Netscape messenger? Many times if you are over your quota limit, it is not possible to delete messages in Netscape. In this case, you must delete the using pine e-mail.

Log on to Copland
Start the pine e-mail program.
1. At the copland % prompt, type "pine".
  FYI: Use the arrow keys to move around in pine. The mouse will not work.
2. At the pine main menu, press the "S" for Setup.
3. On the Setup page, press the "C"" key for Config.
4. On the Setup Configuration page, hold down the "CTRL" key and press "w".
5. At the prompt, type the word "move" and press "Enter".
6. The line
  [X] auto-move-read-msgs
  will appear. If there is an X in brackets, press the "x" key to take it out.
7. Press the "E" key to exit and press the "Y" key to replace the settings.
8. You will be returned to the pine main menu.
At the pine main menu, choose Folder List by highlighting it and pressing the "Enter" key.
Using your arrow keys, choose the folder you wish to delete messages from and press "Enter".
The folder will open and list the messages.
1. Sort the messages in decending order by size. Type a "$" and "z", and then type "$" and "r".
2. NOTE: To open a folder or a message, highlight it using the arrow keys and pressing the "Enter" key to open it. To close a folder or message, press "," (Comma).
3. There is a number in parenthesis in the middle of each line of the folder list. This number indicates the size of the message. If the number is followed by a K, the message is very large and should be deleted or moved to Local Netscape mail.
4. To delete one or more messages in a folder. Highlight the message with the arrow keys and press the "d" key. A "d" will appear as the first character on the line.
5. Delete as many messages as you wish in the folder.
6. After messages are selected for deletion, press the "x" key to expunge and actually remove the messages.
To move to another folder, press "m" to return to the pine main menu. Highlight Folder List and press the "Enter" key. Highlight the folder you wish to view and press the "Enter" key. Follow the directions above to delete messages.
Quit the pine program.
1. Press the "q" key while in the folder list or pine main menu.
2. When asked if you really want to quit pine, press the "y" key for yes.
3. When asked if you want to save the read messages in "read-mail" press the "n" key for no.
