How do I send a message to a correspondent not at UD?

  1. Start a Pine Mail session.
  2. At the Main Menu screen press C to select Compose Message.
  3. The cursor will be in the To field. Type the e-mail address of the person to whom you are sending the message.
  4. The next two fields in the header are optional--you can fill them in if you choose:

  5. Press ENTER.
  6. In the Subject field, type a brief title describing your message.
  7. Press the DOWN ARROW key or ENTER to move the cursor below the Message Text line. Type your message. You do not need to press ENTER when your text reaches the right-hand side of the screen. The text will wrap around to the next line automatically.
  8. The options available while you compose a message are shown at the bottom of the screen. To use one of these options, you must hold down the CTRL key and press the indicated letter key (The ^ character represents the CTRL key.) For example, to cancel the message your are composing, press CTRL-X (^C on the screen).


Send the Message

After you compose the message, you can send it in the usual way.
  1. Hold down the CTRL key and press X (^X). You will see the following program prompt:

    Send message?
  2. Press Y to send the message or N to continue composing the message.

Important Note
Once you send the message, you cannot retrieve it. (However, a copy of the message you sent is saved in your sent-mail folder.)
