I've received a word-processed file as an attachment in a
Pine message. How do I view it with my word-processsing
program?
If you've received a word-processed file as an attachment in a Pine
message,
to view the file, you must have access to the
word-processing program in which the file was created. In general, these are the steps you need
to
follow:
- Use the Pine Mail program to save the attachment as a file in your
UNIX account
on the central e-mail server.
- Save the file to your desktop computer using a file
transfer program (e.g., WS_FTP
LE on a Windows system or the Fetch
program for a
Macintosh computer.)
- Open the file in the word-processing program in which it
was
created.
Saving an attached word-processed file from

in an e-mail message to the central UNIX server:

select Message Index.

the attachment.
- Press ENTER (or the > character
key) to select
ViewMsg.
- Press > to select ViewAttch.
- Use the ARROW key(s) to highlight the
attachment you want.
- Press S to select Save. This option
allows
you to save the attachment as a file on the central e-mail server.
- You will see the following program message:
Save: Copy attachment to file in home directory
filename
You can accept the
filename given or
give the file a new name.
- Press ENTER.
- Press M to return to the Main Menu
screen.
- Quit the Pine Mail program.
Downloading a word-processed file from the
central e-mail server to your desktop computer
After you use the Pine Mail program to save the attachment as a file in
your account on the central
e-mail server, you can download it to your desktop computer
using either the
WS_FTP
LE (FTP) program for a Windows computer
or the Fetch
program for a
Macintosh computer.
Opening the file in a word-processing
program
After you download the file to your desktop computer, you can open it in the
word-processing
program in which it was created. The file should have retained all of its
formatting.
