Can't log on to Netscape Messenger
Remember: You may not have to perform all of these
steps. After each
step, check to see if the problem still occurs. If it does, go to the next
step. If you've completed all the steps, call the Help Center at 831-6000,
Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.
- The most common reason a user can't log in to Messenger is that
Messenger is not looking for the correct password. Follow the steps below
to determine if this may be your problem.
-
Open Netscape Messenger ("Communicator | Messenger")
-
A password box asking for your
IMAP password will appear. The box will read
Password for IMAP user xxxxx on mail.udel.edu
where xxxxx is your e-mail UDelNet ID.
-
If your email UDelNet ID is not in the box, check your Netscape
configuration
(preferences).
-
Close Netscape Messenger (File | Close).
-
Start Netscape Messenger.
-
If the password box is now asking for the IMAP password for your
UDelNet ID, but the password still does
not work, check to be sure your CAPS lock is not on. Remember your
password is case sensitive.
-
If you are not able to log in, press "Cancel" to close the password box.
-
Close Messenger
("File | Close") and continue with
the next step.
- Restart Netscape.
-
Exit all Netscape Windows ("File | Exit").
-
Restart Netscape Navigator.
-
Open and log on to Netscape Messenger ("Communicator | Messenger")
- If you continue to have
problems, go to the
next step.
-
Check to be sure that you have a good connection to the network.
-
Open Netscape Navigator.
-
In the Location box, type
http://www.weather.com
-
If you are able to reach this location, you have a good connection to the
network.
-
If you are not able to reach the location, close Netscape, "File | Exit".
-
Open Netscape Navigator and try the weather location again.
-
If the connection is still not working, call the Help
Center at 831-6000.
-
If you have a good connection, proceed to the next step.
-
Change your
password.
-
Open Netscape Messenger.
-
Put your new password in the password dialog box.
