Installation | Configuring the LDAP Server


Installation

  1. Open a browser program and download Mozilla version 1.7 x to your desktop.
  1. When the download is complete, you will see an icon on your desktop that looks similar to the following:

IMPORTANT NOTE
If you have an earlier version of Mozilla installed, complete steps #3-#6, which explain how to uninstall the earlier version. If no previous version of Mozilla is installed, skip these steps and begin at step #7.

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Click Add or Remove Programs. Scroll down the list of programs until you see Mozilla.
  4. Click once on Mozilla, then click Remove. (If instead of seeing separate Change and Remove buttons you see a button labelled Change/Remove, click that one and, if prompted, select Remove in the next dialog box.)
  5. Close all unnecessary dialog boxes.
  6. Double-click the mozilla1_7 icon (shown in step #2 above). The installation files should unzip automatically. You should then see the Mozilla 1.7 Setup Wizard dialog box, which looks similar to the following:

  1. Click Next.

You will see the Select Installation Folder dialog box, which looks similar to the following:

  1. Click Next.

You will see the Confirm Installation dialog box, which looks similar to the following:

  1. Click Next.

You will see a window that indicates the progress of the installation. When the installation is complete, you will see the Installation Complete dialog box, which looks similar to the following:

  1. Click Close.
  2. Return to the computer's desktop. You will see three Mozilla related icons: The installation icon, the Mozilla Navigator icon and the Mozilla Mail icon.
  3. You can delete the installation icon (shown in step #2 above) because it is no longer needed: Right-click the icon. Click Delete.
    • The Mozilla Navigator icon will take you directly to the Mozilla browser program.
    • The Mozilla Mail icon will take you directly to the Mozilla e-mail program.
  1. You must make some additional configuration changes if you are converting to Mozilla from Netscape 4.x, 7.x, or Outlook Express.

    If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Mozilla, check our Mozilla mail settings.


Configuring the Server (for Mozilla versions earlier than 1.7.12)

To configure the LDAP server correctly, you will have to configure the settings for each of the following address books:

  • University of Delaware
  • Faculty and Staff
  • Students

Instructions for doing so are outlined below.

University of Delaware Directory

  1. From the Windows menu, click Address Book. You will see the Address Book window that looks similar to the following:

  1. In the left-hand column labeled Address Books, double-click on University of Delaware. You will see the Directory Server Properties window that looks similar to the following:

  1. In the Hostname field, highlight the text in the field.
  2. Press the Delete key.
  3. Type ldap.udel.edu in the blank field.
  4. In the Base DN field, highlight the text.
  5. Press the Delete key.
  6. Type ou=People, o=udel.edu in the blank field. The window should now look similar to the following:

  1. Click OK.

Faculty and Staff Directory

  1. From the Windows menu, click Address Book. You will see the Address Book window that looks similar to the following:

  1. In the left-hand column labeled Address Books, double-click on Faculty and Staff . You will see the Directory Server Properties window that looks similar to the following:

  1. In the Hostname field, highlight the text in the field.
  2. Press the Delete key.
  3. Type ldap.udel.edu in the blank field.
  4. In the Base DN field, highlight the text.
  5. Press the Delete key.
  6. Type ou=Faculty and Staff, ou=People, o=udel.edu in the blank field. The window should now look similar to the following:

  1. Click OK.

Student Directory

  1. From the Windows menu, click Address Book. You will see the Address Book window that looks similar to the following:

  1. In the left-hand column labeled Address Books, double-click on Students. You will see the Directory Server Properties window that looks similar to the following:

  1. In the Hostname field, highlight the text in the field.
  2. Press the Delete key.
  3. Type ldap.udel.edu in the blank field.
  4. In the Base DN field, highlight the text.
  5. Press the Delete key.
  6. Type ou=Students, ou=People, o=udel.edu in the blank field. The window should now look similar to the following:

  1. Click OK.
